One of Wales' most stunning landscapes is once again left a disgusting mess

Shocking pictures have laid bare the extent of fly-tipping at one of Wales' most picturesque landscapes.

Piles of charred and discarded furniture and waste have been spread just metres away from anti-littering signs.

The trail of waste, containing everything from a dartboard to old beds, was spotted at Y Domen Fawr summit in Blaenau Gwent.

It is the second time this year that fly-tipping in the area has been criticised, after old tyres and mattresses were dumped on Manmoel Road just outside the Brecon Beacons.

Kristian Wilkes, who walked to the site from Manmoel Road, said: "It's always been a hotspot for flytippers but seeing it this time has really shocked me and made me angry.

"This isn't just a little bit of rubbish it's lorry's worths - clothes, household waste, furniture, paint and even the kitchen sink.

"It's never been this bad and it's sad to see, we should be proud of where we live not destroying it."

In 2018, 995 fly-tipping incidents were reported in Blaenau Gwent, leading to 340 investigations, four warning letters and four prosecutions.

But Mr Wilkes has criticised the efforts of the council to stop people from leaving rubbing in the area.

The 33-year-old, from Ebbw Vale, said: "Putting up signs is not going to stop that they need manned patrols daily or at least a few times a week.

"Nothing seems to be in place for the truck loads of waste being.

A spokesman for Blaenau Gwent Council said: "Fly-tipping is an anti-social and dangerous problem which costs the Council thousands of pounds every year to clear away.

"It is unsightly and pollutes our environment. There is no excuse for knowingly fly-tipping or dumping rubbish. The Council will fully investigate all complaints and also uses CCTV surveillance to proactively target-fly tippers.

"All complaints about fly tipping made to environmental health will result in a formal investigation by a fully trained, experienced enforcement officer and if we find sufficient evidence to enable a prosecution we pursue one."
