One of the victims in a double stabbing is still in hospital

One of the victims of a double stabbing in Failsworth remains in hospital in a 'stable' condition.

Police were called to Devon Road to reports of youths with knives shortly after 5pm on Wednesday.

Two men, aged 21, were taken to hospital with knife injuries, police said.

One of the victims is still being treated for his injuries in hospital. He is said to be in a stable condition.

The other man been released from hospital.

Police said a metal bar was recovered from the scene.

Residents said a large group of youths were gathered near Coronation Road shortly before the attack.

Witnesses said the two victims were then treated on the grass verge off Somerset Road.

"I parked up just before the ambulance arrived," said one resident.

"There was a guy on the floor on his side covered in blood. There was another guy who had been stabbed too.

"Then the ambulance arrived. There was quite a lot of people on the corner.

"My neighbour saw it happen. They had knives. They stabbed them, threw the knives on the grass verge and then ran off down Devon Road.

"It's pretty bad, and unusual round here. There was a big group of them, probably about eight or 10 of them."

A group of youths were seen running off along Devon Road by another resident.

Greater Manchester Police said no arrests had been made. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Stickers branded with 'Lives not Knives' have appeared on metal fencing on Somerset Road.

A GMP spokesman said: "No knives were recovered from the scene.

"A metal bar was recovered from the scene.

"The two victims are 21. One of them is still in hospital in a stable condition.

"Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101."
