One of the UK's poshest villages is less than an hour from Bristol

The names of the poshest villages in the UK have been revealed, with one just 40 minutes from Bristol.

The Telegraph has published its annual ranking of villages across the country, showing that postcode lottery exists wherever you are.

Competition to nab a home in the highly sought-after countryside paradises is raging, with families spending huge sums of money renting while they wait for their ideal property to come on the market.

Just 54 villages out of 6,116 made this year's list, compiled by The Telegraph, meaning that the ones named are literally in the top 1 per cent of villages in the country.

There is vast competition for a place on the list - Britain is rife with stunning places to live, both in the countryside and in big cities, so to be named is extremely impressive.

One of those 52 villages is located just 40 minutes south east of Bristol, and is described as a "vibrant community" with a "popular pub".

Wellow, located on the edge of the Cotswolds only three miles from Bath, has been named the Poshest Village in Somerset, receiving a glowing review from The Telegraph.

Francesca Leighton-Scott of Knight Frank told The Telegraph: “It has a vibrant community with an excellent pub, the Fox and Badger, a well-stocked community-run village shop, a church, primary school, monthly newsletter, two flood-lit tennis courts, a playground and stables."

The average house price is a whopping £954,993, and there is major "Posh Appeal" with the "vibrant community, with monthly newsletter, popular pub and village shop, and good stables".

Altogether, it sounds like a lovely village in the top 1 per cent for the top 1 per cent of earners to enjoy country living (who doesn't love a good pub?).
