One of the oldest houses in East Kilbride sells within days of going on the market

One of East Kilbride's oldest houses has sold just days after going on the market.

The highly-sought after historic property, Rosemound House, dates back to the 1600s and is believed to be the oldest inhabited house in the town.

Original features have been retained (Bill Fleming)

Rosemound was once owned by James Bridie - one of Scotland's most famous playwrights.

Born in Glasgow, he qualified as a doctor but quickly established himself as a dramatist with plays like The Anatomist (about grave-robbers Burke and Hare), A sleeping Clergyman, and Mr Bolfry.

He also helped set up the Citizens' Theatre in Glasgow.

It went on the market for offers over £285k but was quickly snapped up and boasts three bedrooms as well as being close to the town centre and Village and within reach of transport links.

The home has been beautifully upgraded (Bill Felming)

It is described on the rightmove website as being a "unique character property" and "a credit to the current owners".

The description goes in to say it "offers spacious accommodation over two levels, has many original features, to include plastering cornicing, ceiling roses, and internal exposed brick work".

The decor is warm and welcoming (Bill Fleming)

There is both a formal lounge and sunroom with log burning stoves.

The house boasts manicured gardens (Bill Fleming)

It is set amidst stunning gardens within a large corner plot and has private parking for three cars.

The estate agent told the East Kilbride News the property is currently under offer.
