One of the Bay Area’s most fabled music publications is up for sale

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Want to own one of the Bay Area’s most fabled music publications?

Well, BAM magazine — which has covered Green Day, Sammy Hagar, Santana, the Donnas and other members of the local music scene for decades as well as once hosted one of the Bay Area’s best parties/award shows (aka the Bammies) — is up for sale.

Kenny Wardell Sr., the publication’s longtime managing director, announced via email that is selling both the magazine and the rest of the BAM Media’s assets.

“After 10+ years at the helm of BAMmagazine.com, it’s time for me to RETIRE!” he wrote in the email. “AND, we’re looking for a new owner for BAM MEDIA! Most of BAM MEDIA’s assets are listed on the above poster.”

The poster, which was included as an attachment to the email, listed the following assets:

—BAM Media

—BAM Magazine (website)

—Bay Area Music Awards (The Bammies)

—BAM Magazine

—Bammies Reunion Concert event footage

—Bammies Walk of Fame

—BAM TV on YouTube

—800 mint condition issues of the printed magazine

—20 years of video/audio tapes of Bammies

—Best of the Bammies video content

—Seat on Bammies Music Foundation

Interested parties are directed to contact David Yeary at BamMedia1776@gmail.com.

It’s unclear how much the current owners are looking to get from the sale. No price tag was given in the email and Wardell has yet to reply to our request for that information.

BAM — which stands for Bay Area Music — was started in 1976 by publisher Dennis Erokan. The print magazine ran for more than three decades, finally publishing its final print edition in June 1999. At the height of its popularity, BAM reportedly boasted a circulation of over 130,000 and had offices (as well as separate publications) in both the Bay Area and Los Angeles.

The online version of the magazine is still running, bammagazine.com.
