One of Scotland's richest men has Trustpilot review of pal's business removed over 'conflict of interest'

One of Scotland’s richest men has had his review of a friend’s business taken down by Trustpilot over a “conflict of interest”.

Sir Tom Hunter posted a three-word review of specs firm Optical Express, saying it provided a “first class service”.

He is a friend of the firm’s owner, Scot David Moulsdale.

A Trustpilot spokesman said Sir Tom’s review was taken down on January 14. He added: “Our guidelines state anyone with a conflict of interest cannot write a review about a business they are in some way connected to.”

The spokesman added: “Anyone can flag a review if they believe it breaches our guidelines and these are then assessed by members of our Content Integrity Team.”

Asked if Sir Tom had had laser eye surgery before posting the review, his spokesman said: “He had an eye test. The service was first class.”

The review was reported by Sasha Rodoy, who runs the My Beautiful Eyes Foundation and advocates for people around the UK who complain their eyesight has been damaged by refractive eye surgery.

Optical Express didn’t reply to a request for comment.
