One of Salford's biggest Bonfire Night fireworks displays cancelled after flooding

One of Salford's biggest fireworks displays has been cancelled following flooding.

City Airport, also known as Barton Aerodrome, has called off its pre- Bonfire Night event on Saturday.

Organisers said the decision was made 'with great regret' because of the grass conditions on site following recent rain.

Announcing the news on Facebook this afternoon, they wrote: "It is with great regret that due to recent extensive rainfall, subsequent flooding and our grass field conditions, we have decided to cancel this year's event. All existing ticket purchases will be refunded.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for understanding."

The hugely popular annual Fireworks Spectacular usually includes a funfair and food stalls.

This year's event was also due to feature a model aircraft pyrotechnic show by Team Renegade.
