One of Oldham's best gastropubs has announced its closure, 18 months after being taken over by the award-winning Beastro team.
The Bull's Head Heyside said the coronavirus pandemic and reduced operating hours triggered the decision to close.
Owners James and Heather Taylor announced the news on social media last night 'with a heavy heart', thanking their staff and customers.
The village pub was taken over by the couple last year, who previously ran the renowned Beastro restaurant in Spinningfields.
Although given a lick of paint, the boozer retained all of its traditional charm and earned glowing reviews from the offset.
Its menu featured traditional pub meals with a strong focus on meat, with James making almost all of the condiments from scratch including his revered brown sauce.
The Bulls Head also earned a place on our list of the region's best gastropubs.
The Heyside locals wrote: "It's with a heavy heart we write this but due to the current pandemic, reduced hours and matters completely out of our control, we have made the sad decision to close the pub.
"We have had an awesome 18 months and have met some amazing people. We have had super talented entertainment and some top class evenings.
"We would especially like to thank our team without who we couldn't have created such memorable nights, they really are the A team!
"Thank you to everyone who joined us for a meal, a pint or just a chat. Much love to all. Heather and James xx"
The pair have received an outpouring of support since posting the news, with locals saying its closure is 'an absolute tragedy' and 'a massive loss'.
