One of Notts' most historic pubs sold to former Greene King boss

One of Nottinghamshire's most historic pubs has been sold on to a new company fronted by the former CEO of brewing giant Greene King.

The Prince Rupert pub, in Stodman Street, close to Newark Castle, can trace its history back to the 15th Century and, according to legend, sheltered soldiers during the Civil War.

It was most recently owned by the Knead Pub Group but the firm has now confirmed a number of its venues have been acquired by RedCat, which is fronted by former Greene King boss Rooney Anand.

Smith's of Bourne, The Jubilee Garage in Bourne, The Lord Nelsonin Oakham, Rutland and The Prince Rupert in Newark have all now changed hands.

The Prince Rupert building dates back to 1452 and its historic past still remains evident to this day through its timber framing.

In a statement on its website, Knead pubs announced: "The four pubs have been acquired by the newly launched RedCat pub company fronted by Rooney Anand, ex CEO of Greene King.

"Please be assured that all current bookings will be honoured and if you do need to contact sites individually please email or call.

We are expecting a very smooth transition and to help it be as smooth as possible for the next 4 weeks the above venues will be accepting all KNEAD Gift cards.

"However as our KNEAD loyalty points scheme is unique to our business these can only be redeemed through our Stamford sites: The Crown Hotel, Paten & Co and The Tobie Norris."
