One of Merseyside's oldest pubs set to reopen after covid closure

One of Merseyside's oldest pubs is set to reopen after it shut down during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Cheshire Lines Inn on King Street in Southport closed down when the licensee at the time decided to leave. Since then it has been left dormant.

The pub's owners, Star Pubs & Bars, have now confirmed that it will be reopening sooner rather than later as the company looks to attract a new licence for the historic establishment. The pub will reopen next week under temporary management for drinks and sport, with the addition of food being offered later down the line.

The Cheshire Lines Inn, commonly known throughout Southport as 'The Chesh', was originally called the Cross Keys Inn which dates back to 1817 before its name was changed in 1890. The pub became a Grade II Listed Building in 1972.

A spokesperson from Star Pubs & Bars said: "We’re delighted to be reopening The Cheshire Lines following a two-year closure. It is due to open for drinks and live sport under temporary management in the next week with food introduced further down the line whilst we look for someone to take it on a permanent basis.

"The Cheshire Lines is a popular pub at the heart of the community with a secret garden at the back ideal for customers with children and dogs. We expect it will be very busy once it reopens and would like to undertake a refurbishment once a new licensee has been found to take it on. Anyone interested, should call our recruitment team on 08085 949596."
