One of Liverpool's oldest pubs closes due to new rules but says it will be 'back very soon'

One of Liverpool longest standing pubs has closed its doors temporarily for the second time this year despite serving food.

Under the new Tier 3 rules, which are in place for the Liverpool City Region, restaurants are allowed to remain open and pubs which serve a "substantial meal" such as main meal.

However, Ma Boyles which has been open for 150 years has decided to close despite being famed for its roasts and brunches just as much as its ale.

The much-loved alehouse & eatery sent an email to customers last night informing them of the temporary closure.

In the email, its team wrote: "It is with great sadness that Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery will close its doors from today, due the government's classification of Liverpool as a Covid-19 Tier 3 city.

"Thanks to everyone who supported us since we re-opened in July and the fantastic reviews and feedback we've had since reopening. So, once again we must pause proceedings and put Ma to sleep for this next month or so until we can re-open.

"Our bookings system will be closed until the 15th November, but please do still book ahead for Bottomless brunches and our 3 course Christmas roast running throughout the festive period.

"Any bookings that require deposits will naturally be returnable for any Covid-19 interruptions.

"To all our lovely customers, thanks once more - and see you again very soon.

"All the staff at Ma Boyle's xx"

Last night another much-loved venue cafe Tabac also announced it would be closing temporarily whilst the new restrictions were in place but promised customers it would be "back better than ever" when the time was right.
