One of Liverpool's busiest roads was closed for around nine hours following a serious traffic smash.
Police were called to the Liverpool-bound side of the East Lancs Road, at around 1.20am today, following reports of a collision.
The crash happened between a Kia Picanto and a stationary wagon parked in a layby.
Emergency services rushed to the scene between Blindfoot Lane and Knowsley Lane.
The driver of the Kia was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The East Lancs was reopened at around 10am.
Anyone who witnessed the incident and may have dashcam is asked to contact @MerPolCC or 101 with reference 88 of Sunday 29 September.
