'One of life's good guys' Leeds United players past and present show support for Dominic Matteo

A plethora of former Leeds United players have taken to social media to express their support for former Whites captain Dominic Matteo, after news that he had undergone an operation on a brain tumour emerged on Saturday.

Matteo, who played for the Whites between 2000 and 2004, racking up over 100 appearances in the process, had surgery on Monday and is now recovering in hospital after coming out of intensive care.

Understandably, Leeds United and Liverpool have been swift in their attempts to offer the 45-year-old their support, with a number of the former Scotland international's teammates following suit.

On Twitter, Alan Maybury, who played for the Whites between 1995 and 2001, wrote: "Shocked to hear about @Dominicmatteo21 Get well soon pal".

Robbie Fowler, who played with Matteo both at Leeds and Liverpool posted: "Wishing my mate @Dominicmatteo21 a speedy recovery... one of life's good guys #ynwa #mot"

Brian Deane wrote: "@Dominicmatteo21 get well soon fella"

Former Leeds centre-half Rio Ferdinand posted: "Sending my best wishes to former teammate @Dominicmatteo21 Thinking of you and the family!"

Ian Harte, the Whites' former left-back said: "Thinking of Dom and his family. Everyone is praying that he will be fine"

Fellow former Leeds star and now LUTV commentator Ben Parker wrote: "Thoughts with @Dominicmatteo21 and his family", while the current Elland Road skipper Liam Cooper also sent his support: 'Pull through Dom, thinking of you mate', he posted.

"Terrible to hear the news about @dommatteo21," former Leeds boss Simon Grayon said on Instagram. "Hes a fighter and will come through this horrible news. Stay strong mate. Thoughts are with all his family".

Here's a look at the messages that Leeds players past and present have sent to Matteo.
