One of Dublin's longest ongoing crime mysteries solved as person finally arrested after 8-month search

One of Dublin's longest ongoing crime mysteries has finally been solved all thanks to an eagle-eyed Garda.

Rewind eight months ago and one young Dublin woman was left heartbroken after becoming the victim of a bike theft.

The youngster had lost all hope of being reunited with the Mortello bicycle, stolen over 30 weeks ago, which stood out for its dark green colour.

But, one on-the-ball garda recognised the missing bike while passing Kilmainham on Tuesday.

A local was on top of the two-wheeler when they were nabbed by Gardai who arrested them in connection with the theft.

The girl was over the moon to have recovered her prized possession a bizarre 240 days later and thanked the officers for their ongoing hard work.

A Garda spokesman said: "This bike was recovered yesterday from a local in Kilmainham after a Garda recognised it as being reported as stolen all the way back in June of 2020.

"The bike was finally reunited with its owner, who had resigned herself to never seeing it again, and the local was arrested."
