One of Dublin's best-known restaurants, Bellucci's in Ballsbridge, could be demolished

Dublin City Council has been granted permission to demolish a two-storey building in Ballsbridge which includes the famous Bellucci's Italian Restaurant and Cocktail Bar.

Robbie Fox operates the restaurant and is currently in a planning permission fight with the DCC to save his food place and has appealed to An Bord Pleanála.

The building in South Dublin is also home to offices and is planned to be replaced with a six-storey office and a restaurant development.

This improvement would see the building become four times bigger than the original which is situated across from the RDS.

The proposal to knock it down was put forward by Knockanore Properties, the building owners, who believe that the current structure is not safe.

According to the Daily Mail, Fox said that his restaurant was operated under a long lease and to demolish it would be the "extinguishment of the business [and is] completely unacceptable".

Fox has previously ran Dublin nightclub, Renards, as well as Brown Barns restaurant in Citywest, Tante Zoe's in Temple Bar and Barracuda in Bray.

An Bord Pleanála will issue a ruling on his planning appeal by the end of September.
