One of Bristol's most popular fish and chip shops has gone vegan

One of Bristol's most popular fish and chip shops has launched a new vegan menu.

The Clock Tower emerged as a firm favourite among Bristol Live readers when we asked you for your suggestions to mark National Fish & Chip Day earlier in September.

Dozens of you praised the Kingswood takeaway for its high quality grub, first-rate service and reasonable prices.

Buoyed by the glowing feedback, the couple who run the business - Ebony Kenington and James Harris - have now made it accessible to more diners with the launch of a new plant-based menu.

"We've been thinking about launching a plant-based menu for a while as there are so many vegans in Bristol and we often get asked if we have vegan options," said Ebony, 21.

"I guess we put it off is because we weren't sure how it would go down, but after we were named one of the best chippies in Bristol by Bristol Live readers it gave us the confidence to finally take the plunge and do it.

"We launched the new menu yesterday (September 29) and the response was amazing. We sold out of every option, which we really weren't expecting."

Clock Tower's vegan menu includes burgers, sausages and battered sausages - all made using meat substitutes and delivered by one of the chippie's existing suppliers.

Other new additions include mushroom dippers and pea fritters, but the most popular item so far has, unsurprisingly, been the vegan fish.

"The vegan fish went down a treat yesterday," added Ebony, who used to run her own dog walking business before taking over Clock Tower with her partner three years ago.

"We use banana blossom which is a really good replacement for it, and it's only £4 for a portion.

"The vegan battered sausage was another really popular order and I'm not surprised as it's delicious no matter if you're a vegan or meat eater."

Clock Tower Fish Bar also has a number of gluten free options for both meat eaters and vegans - another feature Bristol Live readers were keen on.

For those who still don't feel comfortable heading out and about, Clock Tower offers free delivery for people living in the Kingswood area.

Clock Tower Fish Bar is located at 84 Regent Street, Kingswood, Bristol BS15 8HU. More information can be found on its website.
