One of Bristol city centre's best pubs to reopen

A pub widely viewed as one of the best in Bristol city centre has shared its reopening plans.

The Christmas Steps, located at the foot of the eponymous street, will use its spacious courtyard area to host some of the best local DJs around.

Initially the popular boozer, which is run by the owner of the Spotted Cow in North Street, Dave Smeaton, and Crack Magazine, will only be open for the five weekends in August, kicking off next Saturday (August 1).

To accompany the music the pub will be serving an extensive food menu, including burgers and roast dinners, and offering its wide range of locally-brewed beers.

Mr Smeaton said: "We are reopening in August with a series of events in our courtyard.

"We'll be taking over the whole courtyard every Saturday and Sunday for drinks, food and music with a safe and socially distanced set up.

"Our whole outdoor space will be transformed into a beautiful seated beer garden, with a special lineup of local DJ talent to play live.

"We can't wait to reopen the doors and get going."

Food will be served between midday and 11pm on Saturdays and between midday and 8pm on Sundays.

Tables of up to six can be booked in advance, but walk-ins are also accepted if there is space.

Bookings can be made for a maximum of three hours, after which time groups will be reseated if it is possible to do so or politely asked to leave if not.

To comply with Government guidelines there will be hand sanitisers dotted throughout the venue and strict social distancing measures in place.

Mr Smeaton's south Bristol pub, The Spotted Cow, has already opened while later this year he will launch a new venue in Church Road, called The Red Church, alongside the same team he runs The Christmas Steps with.
