A Liver Bird inspired brooch which once belonged to a Lady Mayoress of Liverpool is set to be auctioned for hundreds of pounds.
The brooch was commissioned to mark Margaret Hall's time as Mayoress of the city from 1935 to 1936. It was designed by Birmingham jewellers Alabaster & Wilson and retailed by Boodle & Dunthorne.
Modelled in 9ct gold, the period piece was made in this way due to the restrictions in place during World War Two when precious metals were needed for the war effort.
The brooch is hallmarked for 1943, and appears to have been commissioned as a bespoke order for Margaret Hall, and comes still with its original box.
Commissioned for Ms Hall, it later became popular and was presented to other retirees during the 1950s.

The brooch is inspired by city's Liver Birds who have symbolised the city for over 100 years. Affectionately named Bella and Bertie, the two birds have looked out from top of the Royal Liver Building since 1911.
A spokesperson for the Cheshire based Wilson 55 Auctions, who are handling its sale, said: "A brooch with remarkable links to Liverpool history has been discovered by Wilson 55 Auctions. Consigned to our 17th June Fine Jewellery & Watches Auction is a Liver Bird brooch formerly owned by a Lady Mayoress of Liverpool.
"Inherited by our vendor, this fantastic piece created by Alabaster & Wilson is offered with an estimate of £300-400.
"A unique, historical and trailblazing piece used to commemorate a year of service to Liverpool, this fascinating brooch will be offered for sale on Thursday 17th June."
