One NFL analyst wants to see Bears call Bengals about Andy Dalton

The Cincinnati Bengals aren’t likely to trade quarterback Andy Dalton because they aren’t even likely to yank him from the starting lineup in favor of Ryan Finley — even if they probably should.

Yet, that won’t stop trade speculation as the NFL’s trade deadline nears.

Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network, for example, noted perhaps the Chicago Bears should give the Bengals a call: “If you’re the Bears, with a very good defense, do you call the Bengals about Andy Dalton?”

He continued: “When Dalton has good skill players around him, he’s been an above-average QB. This Bears D is good enough to win with AVERAGE play at QB. They once went to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman.”

All fair points, however unlikely it may seem. The Bears fancy themselves contenders, which is tough considering the sudden 3-3 mark while Mitch Trubisky has thrown for just 839 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions.

Further proving the points here, Dalton has utterly collapsed and hasn’t been able to uplift the talent around him this season, including the three touchdowns over five attempts to sink the team against Jacksonville last week.

Maybe this isn’t the likeliest of ideas right now, but if the Bengals end up using a top-two pick on a quarterback, perhaps the Bears are a team to keep in mind this offseason.
