One Nation supporters and men's rights campaigners have clashed with union leaders in a park at Ipswich, west of Brisbane.
Members of the public were invited to attend a family barbecue hosted by One Nation's Ipswich candidate, Malcolm Roberts.
The event was described as an opportunity to raise awareness of domestic violence.
Campaigners of men's right's groups, the Australian Brotherhood of Fathers and #endallDV, were running the sausage sizzle at the event paid for by One Nation.
Around 10 Queensland Council of Union (QCU) representatives turned up to the event to confront Mr Roberts about One Nation's policies on domestic violence.
There were heated exchanges between QCU general secretary Ros McLennan and several men attending the event.
Mr Roberts refused to engage with Ms McLennan or answer questions from reporters, saying the Ipswich City Council had told the party that political events were not permitted on council property.
"The council made it very clear to us yesterday, this is not a political forum," he said.
"Council prohibited any discussion politically on council land."
Mr Roberts then asked the media to leave, saying its presence was making attendees uncomfortable.
"They've been through a lot, these people — emotional violence, physical violence and legal violence [have been] perpetrated on them," he said.
Ms McLennan said the union attended the event to raise concerns that One Nation's policies on domestic violence would endanger the rights and safety of women and children.
"We had some questions — unfortunately Malcolm Roberts was unwilling and unable to answer them," she said.
