'One more time': Mohamed Salah sets sights on more silverware after clinching second Premier League title

Mohamed Salah has set his sights on winning more silverware with Liverpool after clinching a second Premier League trophy.

The Reds will finally get their hands on the trophy this weekend, hosting Crystal Palace over a month on from confirming their triumph with a win over Tottenham. The Egyptian has played a key role for Arne Slot’s side this season, racking up a remarkable 28 goals and 18 assists.

In recognition of his historic output, he has been named Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers Association for the third time in his career, more than any other player besides Thierry Henry.

Speaking after accepting the award, he named the two trophies he still wants to win at Liverpool, having signed a contract extension in April.

“It means a lot to win this award,” he said. “It is incredible to see the [other winners’] names and it is so special.

“I am here because we have won the Premier League and I have had that impact on the team.

“I hope I can [win this award] again next season. I want to win the Premier League one more time and the Champions League again.”

The silverware is not enough for Salah, though, who is also eyeing personal honours. With two more goal involvements on Sunday, he could beat Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s record for the most goal involvements in one Premier League season (47).

“The day we won it, honestly, I have never felt that happy and the celebrations when we won it were amazing. But I do want to get the most goals and assists!”

Having lost charismatic manager Jurgen Klopp alongside some key players last summer, Salah added that he was surprised to have topped the table again.

“I wondered at the start of the season how we would do it,” he admitted. “A good manager and great players had left, and I wondered whether we would be able to do it again. But we worked hard and did our job and we did it very well.

“We have got a good group of players and a very good manager. We started the season well and we took it on to win the Premier League again.”
