One more person identified in Edward Colston statue investigation

Police have identified another person in connection with the damage caused to Edward Colston's statue last month.

The 18th century merchant's statue was toppled and thrown into the harbour during a Black Lives Matter protest on Sunday, June 7.

This dramatic event sparked similar action across the world and led to other statues being taken down.

In the following weeks, Avon and Somerset Constabulary identified six people who 'voluntarily attended a police station for interview'.

The force has now said today (Tuesday, July 14) that another person will be interviewed by officers, leaving 10 people to be traced as part of the investigation.

A police spokesperson said: "Person Q has been identified and arrangements are being made for him to voluntarily attend a police station for interview.

"The investigation remains ongoing."

As part of the investigation, a 24-year-old man from Hampshire was arrested. He has since been released under investigation.

A 27-year-old man was also arrested but he was later released with no further action taken.
