One more person dies in Greater Manchester's hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus

One more person with coronavirus has died in Greater Manchester's hospitals it has been announced.

It takes the death toll from the virus in hospitals in our region to 5,870.

Each day the NHS released data on the number of deaths recorded by hospital trusts in England over the previous 24 hour period.

These are cases where a patient has tested positive for the virus or where Covid-19 is mentioned on their death certificate.

NHS England's daily figures sometimes include previously uncounted deaths that took place several days - or even weeks ago.

They do not include deaths in care homes or community settings.

Today one new death was announced by the Pennine Acute NHS Foundation Trust, which runs several hospitals in north Manchester.

It was one of two recorded in the wider North West.

Nationally, 34 new deaths were announced with 12 occurring in the North East and Yorkshire, seven in London and six in the Midlands.

Their families had been informed the NHS said.

The total number of coronavirus-related deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of Tuesday, April 20, are:

  • Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 646

  • Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9

  • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 1,180

  • NHS Nightingale Hospital North West - 6

  • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 1,592 (+1)

  • Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 8

  • Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 500

  • Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 557

  • Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 583

  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 28
