One more patient dies in North East hospital after contracting coronavirus

One more patient has died in a North East hospital after contracting coronavirus.

A total of 46 deaths were reported by NHS England on Friday afternoon, including a 12-year-old child, taking the total number of Covid-19-related fatalities in England hospitals to 28,221.

A spokesperson from NHS England said: "Patients were aged between 12 and 97 years old. Two patients, aged 65 and 85, had no known underlying health conditions.

"Their families have been informed."

The death in the North East was reported by the North Tees and Hartlepool Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and happened on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Government has announced that the Covid-19 alert level has been lowered from four to three after getting the go-ahead from the chief medical officer.

It comes a day after the Department of Health and Social Care revealed that they had abandoned the development of its own NHS track and trace app after running into technical difficulties.
