One MLB rule change might have the most impact

MESA, Ariz. _ Rangers manager Jeff Banister had little reaction to MLB's announcement Thursday about the implementation of several rule changes, most notably the no-pitch intentional walk and limiting both the amount of time managers could take before asking for a replay review and how much time the New York replay crew could take before issuing a decision.

"I don't get too engaged with what the rules are," Banister said. "We all play by the same set. My opinion is irrelevant."

One other rule change note: Teams will no longer be able to use markers in the outfield to position their players, a practice that had become commonplace for many teams, including the Rangers, as clubs tried to improve their defensive positioning.

Teams would place markers, usually a golf tee or some other small marker, at specific spots in the outfield as landmarks for their outfielders. While Banister did not formally acknowledge if the Rangers used markers, he said the club would not be impacted by the new rule.

"We've got a pretty good system on how we are able to position guys," he said. "Teams that use field markers are just going to have to find a better way."
