One minute recipe to recreate McDonald's vanilla milkshake at home

Fast food giant McDonald’s are currently unable to serve their much loved milkshakes but fans will not have to go without as a recipe for people to try out at home was shared online.

On Instagram, @cakeontherun posted an easy vanilla variation that you can make and best thing is it takes less than one minute to create.

It could even become your new go to drink when craving a treat from the golden arches.

It only requires four basic ingredients and you don't need to be an experienced cook.

Just ensure you have a blender handy to do all the hard work.

The video above gives a handy demonstration with simple instructions listed below.

Vanilla milkshake recipe (serves 1):

Ingredients:

  • 6 tbsp vanilla ice cream
  • 150ml any milk
  • 3-4 ice cubes
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

Method:

  1. Put all of the ingredients into a blender and blitz for a few seconds until smooth and creamy.
  2. Pour into a glass and enjoy.

Top tips for the best milkshake:

  • Try to use a good quality ice cream if you can such as one made with Madagascan vanilla.
  • You can make it vegan friendly by using soya ice cream and a dairy free milk such as almond or coconut.
  • If you're feeding a crowd, simply increase the portion sizes per person.
  • As with all fresh milkshakes, it is best consumed straight away.

McDonald's milkshake shortage explained

Reports state that a shortage of lorry drivers due to post-Brexit EU immigration rules and Covid-19 restrictions that are still in place are causing an impact.

Mirror Online says that EU regulations have restricted the number of drivers available as well as some needing to follow self-isolating rules as Covid remains dominant across Great Britain.

The fast-food chain is said to be doing everything it can to restore the problem to bring back the hugely popular Maccies milkshake across a number of its restaurants.

In a statement, a McDonald’s spokesman said they were “working hard to return these items to the menu”.
