
Police were called to reports of an assault in the early hours of the morning, and were making inquiries on Thursday to find the second of two men reportedly involved after one was hospitalised in a serious by stable condition.
Officers were called to a service station on St James Road at New Lambton after reports of an assault between two men around 4.30am.
One man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.
Newcastle police established a crime scene and commenced investigations, but were informed a second man had left the scene prior to their arrival.
Police have urged anyone who may know of this incident, or who may have available dash-cam footage of the area at the time, to contact Crime Stoppers.
