One man has been left fighting for his life after a horror crash as the road remains shut down.
Cops raced to the one-vehicle smash on the A78 at around 1.35am on Friday, September 3.
It's understood the collision involved a BMW X5 near to Eglinton roundabout.
A man, the driver of the car, was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, a female passenger was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for minor injuries.
An investigation has been launched underway to establish the circumstances of the crash.
The road, which remains closed, was sealed off in the early hours of Friday morning southbound at the Eglinton Interchange.
Officers are urging anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident or who may have seen the BMW on the road prior to the collision to contact them.
Sergeant Craig Beaver said: “Enquiries are ongoing in to the cause of the crash and we are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch. I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time to review dashcam footage and get in touch.
“We anticipate the road will be closed for some time and we would ask motorists to avoid the area if possible.”
