One man dead and another injured after 'incident' on fishing boat off UK coast

A male crew member has died and another is injured after an incident onboard a fishing vessel off the British coast.

A coastguard helicopter from Newquay, Cornwall, and an RNLI lifeboat from St Mary's were dispatched to the boat which was 50 nautical miles south-west from the coast of the Isles of Scilly.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that one man has died following the incident, which happened at about 6.30am on Saturday morning.

It is understood that the fishing vessel is now in Newlyn, where she was escorted by the Penlee lifeboat, CornwallLive reports.

Details of the incident are yet to be revealed.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it was notified of the incident, along with the Marine Accident Investigation Board, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and HM Coastguard.

A joint investigation into the incident continues.

A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police and partners from the Marine Accident Investigation Board, Maritime and Coastguard Agency and coastguard, were informed of an incident on board a fishing vessel some 50 miles off the Cornish Coast, resulting in the death of one male and the injury to another of the crew.

“The families of those involved have been informed and a joint investigation is now under way.”
