Detectives have released an image of a man they want to trace after it was reported that an unknown offender had broken into a grey Peugeot 208 parked on Sutton Brook Close and stolen a purse containing bank cards.

The incident was reported at around 10.10am yesterday, June 7, but is believed to have happened between 11pm on Sunday and 3.30am on Monday.

Following enquiries, it was discovered the bank cards have since been used for in-store transactions.

Detective Inspector Jackie Guinness said: "We are very keen to speak to this man, as we believe he could have valuable information about this incident which would help our enquiries.

"While contactless technology is convenient and generally safe, there is the risk that if your card is stolen or lost it can be used or passed on to use for purchases without needing a PIN.

"If you spot any suspicious activity with your card or bank account, please report it to police immediately."

If you recognise the man pictured, or have any information, contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’. You can also call 101 quoting incident reference 315 of 07/06 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or via their website here.
