One man arrested after gardai seized €800,000 of drugs and €80,000 cash during search of vehicle in west Dublin

One man was arrested after gardai seized a huge haul of drugs and cash during the search of a vehicle in west Dublin.

Officers discovered 40 kg of cannabis worth €800,000 and €80,000 in cash after intercepting a vehicle in Clondalkin today.

One man, aged 47, was arrested. He is currently detained pursuant to the provisions of section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Clondalkin Garda Station, Dublin Live reports.

The arrest was made by the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) as part of an ongoing investigation targeting serious and organised crime.

A garda spokesman said: “As part of an ongoing investigation targeting serious and organised crime, personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), intercepted and searched a vehicle in the Clondalkin Area of West Dublin on Tuesday 20th October 2020.

“In the course of the operation forty (40) kilogrammes of Cannabis (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of €800,000 was seized along with approximately €80,000 in cash.

“One male, aged 47 has been arrested and is currently detained pursuant to the provisions of section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Clondalkin Garda Station.”
