SONGKHLA: The driver of a motorcycle was killed and the pillion rider seriously injured in a collision with a trailer truck at an intersection in Hat Yai district earlier on Sunday, police said.
Pol Maj Somkiat Khamsuwan, a Hat Yai police investigator, said the accident occurred at about 1am in the middle of the Khuan Lang intersection on the Asian Highway in tambon Khuan Lang.
The traffic lights at the intersection were not properly functioning, leaving only yellow lights blinking, leading to the collision.
Prakob Thongluan, 48, the motorcycle driver, was killed while the pillion rider, about 50, were seriously injured. The motorcycle was badly damaged. The wounded was admitted to Hat Yai Hospital.
Imron Luangprathum, 59, the trailer truck driver, was brought to Hat Yai police station for questioning.
About an hour afterward, another accident took place at the intersection with only the blinking yellow lights on. Nobody was hurt.
