One killed in landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti valley

SHIMLA: A person was killed and another was injured after being trapped in a landslide at Kaurik village of Himachal’s Spiti valley on Wednesday evening, officials said.

According to primary reports from Spiti, labourers were engaged in work of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at Kaurik when a landslide occurred and two were buried under the debris. While one person sustained injuries, another died on the spot.

An official said the deceased has been identified as Hari Kumar and the injured is identified as Raj Kumar. “Address of both the victims is yet to be verified. Officials from the district administration and police have reached the spot. Raj Kumar has received deep injuries and has been rushed to the nearest hospital,” he said.

Manali highway opens

The Chandigarh-Manali national highway, which was blocked following a massive landslide near Pandoh in Mandi district on Wednesday early morning, was reopened after about 12 hours. An official said the debris was cleared for light vehicles at about 1pm and the road was fully cleared for all vehicles at about 4pm.
