KURUKSHETRA: A man was killed, another went missing and one managed to swim out, after a car fell into a canal in Kurukshetra district of Haryana on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Arora (45), while Bunty Sodhi (31) who was driving the car is missing. Both are residents of Hisar in Haryana.
Guddu Kumar (21) of Nalanda district in Bihar, who was also travelling in the car, lodged a complaint with Kurukshetra police alleging that a tractor-trolley driver hit their vehicle and it fell in the canal.
A case has been registered against an unknown driver of identified tractor-trolley under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Kurukshetra University (KU) police station on Sunday.
Guddu said he works at a trading company in Hisar district and on Saturday, he along with his company's record-keeper Sunil Arora and car driver Bunty were on their way to Dehradun from Hisar.
"We stayed for some time at the house of in-laws of Bunty, and at 1.15 am (on Sunday), we left for Dehradun. On the way, our vehicle got empty of fuel and we stayed at a petrol pump for the night. In the morning, after filling our vehicle’s tank, we continued our journey and Bunty was driving. At about 5.15 am, when we reached near Mirjapur bridge on the canal, a tractor trolley hit our vehicle on the side. Our car fell into the canal”, said Guddu.
Guddu said he managed to swim out of the canal, while Sunil and Bunty could not make it.
He said several people reached the spot along with police and with the help of a crane; the car was fished out along with Sunil.
Sunil was rushed to LNJP civil hospital in Kurukshetra, where he was declared brought dead.
KU police station house officer (SHO) inspector Devender Kumar said efforts are being made to search for Bunty while Sunil was declared dead.
He said a case was registered and investigation is being done.
