One person was killed and another injured when a country made explosive being carried by them went off near a petrol bunk at the Utnoor Crossroad in Utnoor mandal of Adilabad district on Monday.
The explosive material, assumed to be four crude bombs were meant to be set up on the perimeters of farms to kill wild boars and prevent the animals from damaging crops. The explosives were being carried by the ill fated duo on a motorcycle.
The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Rathod Maniram, and the injured was his brother 20-year-old Shaniram. The brothers belonged to Anji-Koregaon village of Arni taluk in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra. The family of these Pardi hunters had camped at Luxettipet village in Utnoor mandal about 4 km from the spot where the incident occurred, a couple of days back.

According to eye witness account the youths had just started off and were going to deliver the crude bombs to customer-farmers and the explosive went off when the bike skidded as Maniram, who was driving the motorcycle, tried to enter the petrol bunk for refuelling. Apparently Maniram took the impact of the explosion as his body was literally blown into pieces while his brother escaped with minor injuries.
The police brought in the bomb disposal squad to ascertain if there were more explosives lying around following the fall from the bike. Utnoor CI K. Naresh Kumar told The Hindu that the all the bombs being carried by the duo seem to have gone off at one go as there were no explosives found on the site.
According to information given by the injured person and his family members, the country made bombs were meant to be used by farmers in Shivnoor-Dubbaguda village of Jainoor mandal in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. The explosive charges, a not so common and rather costly method to control the wild boar menace, are set up by the Pardis who charge the farmer ₹ 1,000 for every kill made.
