One killed, 2 wounded in Songkhla road accident

SONGKHLA: A soldier was killed and two other people seriously injured in a road accident in Hat Yai district early Sunday, police said.

Pol Capt Jetporn Buppha, a Kho Hong police investigator, said the accident took place at about 3.30am on Lopburi Rames road linking Hat Yai and Songkhla near Moo 5 village in tambon Nam Noy.

A police investigation revealed that a white Nissan Almera car, which was running at a high speed, crashed into a roadside railing at a sharp curve before slamming into a tree and overturning.

Police and rescuers from a local charity foundation forced open the vehicle, which was badly damaged, and found three people trapped inside. One of them, Pvt Areef Na Chalaem, 23, a soldier of the 42nd Military Circle from Senanarong Camp, was killed. The two others -- Ekalak Lohem, 22, the driver, and Nathawut Donroman, 22 -- were seriously injured. The wounded were admitted to Hat Yai Hospital.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
