One injured in Glasgow Byres Road tenement fire after emergency crews race scene

Firefighters found one person injured when they were called to a blaze in Glasgow's west end last night.

They responded to reports of smoke and the smell of burning in a tenement on Byres Road around 7.30pm.

Three crews raced to the scene, along with one height appliance after the alarm was raised, the Daily Record reports.

A fire service spokesperson said: "The call was received at 7.30pm and we mobilised four resources to a report of the smell of burning and smoke was found in the close.

"There was one casualty and we left the scene at 9.02pm."

The spokesperson was unable to provide further details on the type and extent of injury.

Police and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted.

Images shared on social media show fire engines with blue lights flashing close to University Avenue, while photos published by the Press Association appear to show firefighters opening windows in a first floor flat in a tenement building, close to the junction with Havelock Street.
