One in six Brits has broken up with a partner for 'Netflix-cheating' on them

With winter almost here, there’s nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa with your partner and binging your favourite Netflix series.

While you may be tempted to sneak in a few extra episodes without your partner, findings from a new survey suggest that that may not be wise.

The survey, commissioned by Barclays, reveals that 15% of Brits have broken up with their partner for ‘series-cheating’ on them.

In the survey, over 2,000 Brits were asked about their TV habits, including whether or not they see series-cheating as a dumpable offence.

The results revealed that 15% of respondents have argued with a partner over skipping ahead and watching episodes without them.

A quarter of those admitted to series-cheating back in revenge, while 15% said that the arguments actually led to them breaking up!

The findings come shortly after a study by Netflix revealed that a whopping 48% of streaming couples series-cheat on each other.

Of those cheaters, 44% said they’ve done it at least three times, while 60% said they’d do it more often if they knew they wouldn’t get caught.

In terms of genre, it seems that dramas are most likely to have us cheating, with The Walking Dead, Orange Is The New Black, Breaking Bad, House of Cards and Marvel’s Daredevil the most tempting programmes to skip ahead on.

Netflix said: “In a binge-watching world where it's easy to say 'just one more,' Netflix cheating has quickly become the new normal.

"We're human, the more attractive the show - the more they eye will stray.”
