One in four teens say they’d enlist if Britain went to war

• Research indicates that almost half of British 16- and 17-year-olds are proud of their national identity, a higher proportion than the general adult population.
• A significant minority of teenagers, nearly three in 10, support the abolition of the monarchy, with only a quarter opposing such a move.
• Climate change is a major concern for seven in 10 young people, making them the age group most worried about the issue, with 60 per cent backing the 2050 net zero target.
• One in four teenagers said they would likely enlist to fight if the UK were involved in a war – 32 per cent of boys compared to 15 per cent of girls.
• The findings emerge as the government considers lowering the voting age to 16 before the next general election.
