One in 20 primary school children eat nothing but crisps and snacks for breakfast

Up to one in twenty primary school children eat crisps for breakfast, a study reveals.

And a shocking 65% of children regularly do not have anything at all to eat in the mornings.

Among those youngsters who do eat breakfast every day, 54% have sugary cereals and 31% have toast with high-sugar toppings like chocolate spread.

And 74% of parents say that it is a constant battle to get their children to eat a healthy, balanced diet. More than half of them worry that a lack of breakfast will affect their child’s performance at school.

A spokesman for Flora, which surveyed 2,000 parents, said: “We know mums and dads have a million and one things to think about, and providing children with a healthy and nutritious start to the day is a huge priority.

“We understand the daily struggles parents face to convince their little ones to enjoy a healthy meal when there are so many sugary and convenient treats available.”
