ONE in 10 Scotland fans believe their team will win the World Cup, a new poll has indicated.

A YouGov poll showed 9% of Scottish fans think Steve Clarke's men have a "realistic hope" of lifting the trophy.

However, most fans (38%) believe the team will only get as far the round of 32.

Scotland have been in eight World Cups in their history but have never made it past the group stages.

A total of 17% of fans think Scotland will get knocked out in the round of 16 while 6% believe they will exit in the quarterfinals.

The tournament is largely taking place in the US, with a small selection of matches in Mexico and Canada.

The poll also showed while 51% of English people hope Scotland do well in their first World Cup since 1998, Scots are more likely to hope England do badly (32%) than hope they succeed (27%).

Overall, 57% of Scots say they'll be actively supporting their national team, with 46% of people in England cheering on the Three Lions.

The survey shows interest in the 2026 World Cup is higher in England and Scotland than in 2022, though is lower in Wales, who have not qualified this year.

A total of 33% of football fans in England believe the Three Lions have a realistic hope of getting to the final, including 22% who think England have a decent chance of winning the tournament.

Scotland kick off their tournament against Haiti in the early hours of Sunday morning UK time, before going on to play Morocco and Brazil later this month.

Fans have been belting out Flower of Scotland at Edinburgh Airport as the prepare to follow the team to the US, while reports from America suggest planes carrying Tartan Army supporters have been running out of beer amid the excitement.
