One hospitalised and school badly damaged after vicious fire in Artane, North Dublin

A North Dublin School has closed today after a vicious fire broke out early this morning.

The Dublin Fire Brigade rushed to the scene at Scoil Chaitriona Cailini in Artane after the alarm was raised at around 6am.

Six heroic units battled the blaze and managed to get it under control by 8am, but some classrooms and a canteen were badly damaged.

The roof also fell through.

One person was also taken to hospital as precaution due to smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were forced to bring in a water tanker due to low pressure in the area.

A text was sent out to parents at 7am informing them the school would be closed and a nearby youth club is hosting tea and coffee for them from 9am.

Gardai have confirmed they're attending the scene saying that the alarm was raised at around 6am this morning.

A spokesperson told Dublin Live: "Gardai and Fire Services are currently dealing with a fire at a School on Mask Ave, Artane. The alarm was raised shortly after 6am."

The Dublin Fire Brigade said: "We were called to a school fire shortly after 6.10am this morning when an alert local resident spotted the flames on Mask Avenue, Artane.

"In total 6 fire engines, a turntable ladder, emergency tender & foam unit were sent to the fire.

"The turntable ladder was used as a water tower to pump water from above directly onto the fire. One person was teated for smoke inhalation nearby. If you're living near the school, close all windows as a precaution."
