One held for rape attempt

The Kazhakuttam police arrested a history-sheeter for an alleged attempt to sexually assault a woman on Tuesday.

The police identified the accused as Abraham Johnson alias Jolly, 39, of Thumba. Known to have misbehaved with numerous women in the suburb, the local community had also submitted a mass petition against him, the police said.

The accused was nabbed in connection with an attempt that he allegedly made to harass a woman during the wee hours of February 19. He made an attempt to grab her when she had gone to collect the newspaper from her gate. Following the incident, he went absconding.

The accused has been remanded to judicial custody. The police said he had undergone a two-year jail term in a rape case in 2015.
