One held, 10 scooters recovered

The Kamakshipalya police on Saturday arrested a 40-year-old bike lifter and recovered 10 scooters worth ₹5.2 lakh from him.

The accused Srinivasa, a resident of CB Pura in Gubbi taluk, would target only scooters as he did not know how to ride gear bikes, the police said.

Explaining the modus operandi, the police said that the accused would come to the city by bus carrying handheld hammer and a crow bar. He move around the city to identify parked scooters. He would watch the scooter for sometime and then break the lock using the hammer and crow bar and ride back to his home town .

The accused would then sell the stolen scooters to his contacts, who would in turn sell it to the people in rural areas .

Based on a complaint, the Kamakshipalya police analysed CCTV footage to track down the accused and arrested him. The police are now tracking down the owners of the vehicles based on the registration number, a police officer said.
