One Greater Manchester borough sees coronavirus infection rate rise as remaining nine plummet

The coronavirus infection rate has gone up in one area of Greater Manchester, as the weekly rates continue to plummet across the other nine areas. However, the infection rate across the region remains below the national average.

Cases in the borough of Manchester have risen by 2 per cent, as Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester. The borough recorded a rate of 104.8 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending May 6.

The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 68.2 cases per 100,000 people. In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 91.0 cases per 100,000 population.

The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 108.9 cases per 100,000 people. A total of 2,580 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on May 6.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 600 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 19 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on May 01, a total of 373 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 49 fewer than the week before, a fall of 15 per cent.

On Tuesday May 03, there were 17 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is the same as a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending May 6, a total of 46 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 3 fewer than the week before. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 991,084 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 9,285 deaths.

Bury

There were 183 positive tests over the last week in Bury, which is 23 fewer than in the previous week. The week-on-week trend in Bury is down by 11 per cent and the latest infection rate is 96.0 cases per 100,000 people.

Rochdale

Rochdale is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 71.5 cases per 100,000 people. There were 160 cases recorded in Rochdale, which is 102 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 39 per cent.

Bolton

Bolton saw a total of 269 cases in the week ending May 6, which is 28 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of nine per cent. In Bolton, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 93.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Manchester

There was a rise of two per cent in cases in Manchester over the week ending May 6, and the infection rate is now 91.8 cases per 100,000 population. Manchester recorded 510 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 12 more than the previous week.

Wigan

Wigan recorded 312 coronavirus cases, which is 137 fewer than in the previous seven days. The latest infection rate in Wigan is 94.3 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 31 per cent week-on-week.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 162 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 6, which is 85 fewer than the previous 7 days. The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 68.2 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 34 per cent week-on-week.

Trafford

In Trafford, there were 249 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 6, which is 49 fewer than the previous 7 days. Trafford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Trafford is level slightly compared with the previous day but the week-on-week trend is down by 16 per cent.

Tameside

In Tameside, the number of cases is down by 25 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 91.6 cases per 100,000 population. There were 208 positive Covid-19 tests in Tameside in the week ending May 6, which was 71 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Salford

The trend is down in Salford, where there were 246 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 6, which is 43 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 15 per cent compared to the previous week. The latest infection rate in Salford is 93.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Stockport

In Stockport, the latest infection rate is 95.5 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 21 per cent. A total of 281 people tested positive for Covid in Stockport over the seven days ending on May 6, which is 74 fewer than the week before.
