One former Cardinal abruptly retires, another changes mind on retirement

Neither Jared Veldheer nor Gerald Hodges are members of the Arizona Cardinals anymore but it wasn’t long ago they were. Veldheer played four seasons for Arizona until getting traded to the Denver Broncos last season, while Hodges played for Arizona last season.

Both made decisions about retirement on Tuesday.

Veldheer, who signed just over a week ago with the New England Patriots on a one-year contract, has changed his mind about playing and will now end his NFL career, reported ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Veldheer almost retired in training camp in 2017 but decided to play that season and then finished off his contract after getting traded.

Hodges decided to retire earlier in the offseason. He has reportedly changed his mind and apparently has suitors trying to sign him, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Hodges played in all 16 games for the Cardinals in 2018, starting six of them. He had 55 tackles on the season. he provided steady veteran play at linebacker when the team needed it.

Veldheer’s career lasted nine seasons. Hodges has played six.
