One-eyed dog who tries to cuddle strangers on walks needs new home

Despite being subjected to the worst of humanity, this adorable dog still has a lot of love to give.

Three-year-old Cookie, who only has one eye, was found sheltering near a fence to escape her abusers.

She was picked up by Blind Dog Rescue UK and placed into foster care in Lincolnshire - but is now in need of a forever family to take her in.

It is thought she lost her right eye either due to "infection or trauma".

A spokeswoman said: "Cookie is a lovely dog - she is sweet, gentle and clever

"She is so beautiful, everyone stops to look at her. She’s so friendly everyone gets a cuddle and loves her.

"It’s hard to walk any distance with her and not be stopped by an admirer."

As the crossbreed enjoys spending time with children and other dogs, she would make the perfect pet for the right family.

"She has lots of energy and always wants attention," the spokeswoman added.

"When we walk with Cookie over local parkland, we've noticed she is glad to meet people, but she gets very interested when she sees families out walking.

"For example, a group of four or five people with some young children among them - she lights up as if she's thinking that might be my lost family! She can't rest until she's gone up to them.

"We noticed that it's dogs about her size like spaniels and cockapoos that she races to see. She's not interested in big dogs or groups of dogs - in fact if they come up to her she is frightened."

While not much is known about her background, Cookie has been showing signs that she might have previously lived in a home with a family.

The spokeswoman added: "She's so good about people and the house that I think she must have been a pet.

"It looks very much like she lived with a family and another dog about her size and she's looking for them.

"She sleeps through the night on her own in the kitchen in her bed - and seems fine being left.

"We’ve only tried short periods of 10 minutes but she is calm and in her bed in the kitchen when we return.

"She is almost house-trained. She poos outside and as long as she can visit the garden or go for a walk, she also pees outside."
