One Edinburgh area now 'Covid-free' as 25 neighbourhoods labelled 'high-risk'

As First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that Scotland will not be expanding its Covid vaccine passport scheme to theatres and cinemas, more Edinburgh cases are confirmed.

In Edinburgh alone, there have been 1,649 cases reported in the last seven days, adding to Scotland's weekly total of 20,330 positive tests across the country.

There have been 279 new daily cases in the capital as of November 24, with none of the nine deaths hailing from Edinburgh.

Areas such as South Gyle, East Craigs South and Queensferry East are still reported substantial amounts of cases for their population with the average case rate in the most infected areas being 36.

Blackhall reported 77 cases in the last week, meaning it is the area with the highest rate of cases in the capital.

These are the 25 neighbourhoods with a seven day case rate of 400+, meaning these areas would go straight into a level four lockdown should restrictions return:

Blackhall - 77 cases in a population of 6,028 and a case rate of 1,277.4

South Gyle - 41 cases in a population of 5,027 and a case rate of 815.6

East Craigs South - 40 cases in a population of 5,294 and a case rate of 755.6

Gilmerton South and the Murrays - 26 cases in a population of 3,707 and a case rate of 701.4

Murrayfield and Ravelston - 29 cases in a population of 4,502 and a case rate of 644.2

Cramond - 18 cases in a population of 2,814 and a case rate of 639.7

Queensferry East - 32 cases in a population of 5,008 and a case rate of 639

East Craig North - 27 cases in a population of 4,337 and a case rate of 622.6

Silverknowes and Davidson's Mains - 27 cases in a population of 4,563 and a case rate of 591.7

New Town West - 20 cases in a population of 3,391 and a case rate of 589.8

Colinton and Kingsknowe - 26 cases in a population of 4,666 and a case rate of 557.2

Barnton, Cammo and Cramond South - 22 cases in a population of 4,069 and a case rate of 540.7

Corstorphine North - 20 cases in a population of 3,848 and a case rate of 519.8

Mountcastle - 13 cases in a population of 2,557 and a case rate of 508.4

Bonaly and the Pentlands - 23 cases in a population of 4,748 and a case rate of 484.4

Morningside - 28 cases in a population of 6,001 and a case rate of 466.6

Liberton West and Braid Hills - 17 cases in a population of 3,646 and a case rate of 466.3

Duddingston and Portobello South - 19 cases in a population of 4,114 and a case rate of 461.8

Shandon - 25 cases in a population of 5,452 and a case rate of 458.5

Colinton and Firhill - 18 cases in a population of 4,006 and a case rate of 449.3

Trinity - 21 cases in a population of 4,739 and a case rate of 443.1

Polwarth - 21 cases in a population of 4,798 and a case rate of 437.7

Stockbridge - 25 cases in a population of 5,805 and a case rate of 430.7

Balgreen and Roseburn - 19 cases in a population of 4,439 and a case rate of 428

Merchiston and Greenhill - 21 cases in a population of 5,205 and a case rate of 403.5

The only area in Edinburgh that is regarded as 'Covid-free' is Granton South and Wardieburn, having reported less than three cases of the virus in the last seven days.

Other areas with cases under 10 are Hyvots and Gilmerton (3) and Old Town, Princes Street and Leith Street (6).

That is a 9.5 per cent test positivity rate, meaning that 9.5 per cent of all tests taken in the country are positive.

Today, 35,306 new vaccinations were reported, which is an increase yesterdays figure of 33,671.

This was made up of 1,062 first doses, 1,401 second doses, and 32,843 third doses.

Scotland is currently administering an average of 35,807 new vaccinations per day.

This is an increase this time last week, when 34,092 were being administered a day.

In total, 79.4 per cent of the entire Scottish population has had their first dose, 72.1 per cent have had both doses, and 27.5 per cent have had a third dose.

In the past 7 days, 4.6 per cent of Scotland has received a dose.
