One Direction ticket prices continue to fall despite 'hiatus' reports

Aug. 24--One Direction fans also appear to be taking a break from the band.

As reports circulated this weekend that the band will "take an extended hiatus" next year, the demand for tickets on the secondary market did not rise for the band's Chicago show Sunday or its upcoming show in Milwaukee, according to data from ticket search engine SeatGeek.

The average resale price for Sunday's show at Soldier Field was $170, down from $177 on Friday. The median resale price for the Milwaukee show, scheduled for Tuesday at the Brewers' Miller Park, is $105, down from $173 two weeks ago, according to SeatGeek.

SeatGeek analyst Chris Leyden said concert prices typically drop in the days leading up to the event. He speculated that hardcore One Direction fans got their tickets before the "hiatus" news.

It's unclear whether the reports encouraged casual fans to buy tickets to Sunday's show.

The show was not sold out as of Friday, and a Soldier Field spokesman said the tour promoter did not provide final ticket sales numbers.

The band appeared to struggle this summer to fill seats in the stadium. A Groupon sold in June offered tickets to the show for up to 50 percent off. More than 590 Groupons were sold.

One Direction sold out their two Soldier Field shows last year, a stadium spokeswoman said.

Brewers representatives did not return Tribune requests for comment. Tickets were still available on the Brewers website Monday afternoon for $44, including fees, based on a Tribune search.

That show appears to be a draw for Chicago fans. On the SeatGeek site, 23 percent of fans who have searched for Milwaukee tickets are from the Milwaukee area while 12 percent are from the Chicago area, Leyden said.

One Direction's tour is expected to wrap up in October in England.
