One Direction stars set to reunite in multi-million pound Netflix deal a decade after split

One Direction stars are set to “reunite” in a major new Netflix documentary that will see Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson come together in the wake of Liam Payne’s tragic death.

Filming is already underway on the multi-million-pound project, which will follow the pair on a road trip across the US as they reflect on their lives, memories from their boyband years, and Payne’s passing last October.

The series is tipped for release next year to mark a decade since the group officially split.

The other former members, Harry Styles and Niall Horan, are not thought to be involved in the project at this stage.

According to The Sun, the show will explore Payne’s death in Buenos Aires, when the singer fell from a balcony, and how the tragedy brought the former bandmates closer again.

“This will be an absolutely huge show for Netflix and is guaranteed to whip 1D's global army of fans into a frenzy,” an insider told the outlet. “Although the idea of British boyband members doing a show about travelling across America sounds random, most of them now have strong links Stateside.

“And it's likely to be a chance for some serious soul-searching and deep discussions about the incredible journey the group have already been on since they were formed on The X Factor 15 years ago.”

A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to Metro that the documentary will be directed by Nicola Marsh, whose credits include Song Exploder and Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story.

The project is being produced in partnership with Campfire Studios, the team behind documentaries such as Unknown Number: The High School Catfish and America’s Sweethearts: The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. It is slated for release in 2026, marking ten years since One Direction’s split.

1D went on to become one of the biggest boybands of all time, selling more than 70 million records worldwide.

They won almost 200 awards during their career, including seven BRITs, six Billboard Music Awards, and seven American Music Awards, before announcing their hiatus in 2015.

While Zayn left the group before their split, he has lived in the US since 2018 and recently began reconnecting with his bandmates.

In February, he surprised fans at his Los Angeles show by giving Louis a shoutout from the stage.

The pair were also photographed together in New York last month for the first time in almost a decade, sending fans into meltdown.

Zayn is currently preparing for a Las Vegas residency following his Stairway to the Sky shows earlier this year.
